Flexible Stranded Copper Wire (BVR / BVVR / ZR-BVVR / NH-VVR)
Flexible Electrical Wire
Multi-strand copper wire and sheathed flexible cable for panel and equipment wiring and tight routing
Flexible electrical wire uses a stranded copper conductor with more, thinner wires than solid building wire, so it is easier to route through tight spaces and terminate. We make it as single-core BVR, as PVC sheathed BVVR in 2 to 5 cores, and in flame retardant (ZR-BVVR) and fire resistant mica-taped (NH-VVR) versions. The conductor class (IEC 60228 Class 2 or Class 5) is confirmed against the standard on your order; continuous-flex or drag-chain duty requires a separately specified cable construction.
What is Flexible Electrical Wire?
What makes a wire flexible is the conductor, not the insulation. BVR uses more, thinner copper wires than BV of the same size: on our parameter sheet 2.5 mm² BVR is 19 × 0.41 mm where BV is one 1.73 mm wire, and 10 mm² BVR is 49 × 0.50 mm where BV is 7 × 1.34 mm. That makes it easier to bend during installation and to terminate, which is why it is used for panel wiring and equipment leads.
Our standard BVR strand make-up is not an IEC 60228 Class 5 conductor. Class 5 limits the individual wire diameter (for example 0.26 mm maximum at 2.5 mm²), and our sheet uses 0.41 mm wires at that size. If your specification requires Class 5 (or H05V-K / H07V-K type conductors), state it and we confirm the strand construction before quoting. Continuous-flex or drag-chain duty requires a separately specified cable construction.
BVR at 450/750 V in 2.5–70 mm² is covered by our CCC certificate 2002010105016709. BVVR adds a PVC sheath and comes in 2 to 5 cores; ZR-BVVR uses flame retardant compound and NH-VVR adds a mica tape layer. These sheathed and fire-performance versions are not on a CCC or CB certificate we hold. Note that our separate CCC certificate for RVV flexible cord does not cover BVVR. Annealed or tinned copper can be chosen.
Pick this page when the wire needs a multi-strand conductor for routing and termination. For single-core wire that is pulled into conduit and never moved, see Building Wire. For flat sheathed cable for fixed room wiring, see Twin & Earth Cable. For the green/yellow protective conductor, see Earth / Ground Cable.

Values are copied from the factory sheet. Current ratings are not shown because the sheet does not state the installation conditions. The strand diameters here are larger than the IEC 60228 Class 5 limits, so this is not a Class 5 build; a Class 5 conductor is quoted separately on request. CCC covers 2.5–70 mm² only. PVC, 70 °C.

Frequently asked questions about Flexible Electrical Wire
Q.Is BVR a Class 5 conductor?
Not in our standard build. Our BVR sheet uses 19 × 0.41 mm at 2.5 mm² and 49 × 0.50 mm at 10 mm², which are thicker wires than IEC 60228 Class 5 allows. If your specification requires Class 5, say so and we confirm a separate strand construction before quoting. Continuous-flex or drag-chain duty requires a separately specified cable construction.
Q.What is the difference between BV and BVR?
Both are single-core copper wire with PVC insulation. BV is one solid wire up to 6 mm² and 7 to 61 thick wires above that; BVR uses more, thinner wires (for example 19 × 0.41 mm at 2.5 mm²), so it bends and terminates more easily in panels and equipment.
Q.Is your flexible wire CCC certified?
BVR at 450/750 V in 2.5–70 mm² is on CCC certificate 2002010105016709 (valid to 20 Apr 2028). BVVR, ZR-BVVR and NH-VVR are not on a CCC or CB certificate we hold, and our RVV certificate does not cover BVVR.
Q.What is BVVR?
BVVR is flexible copper wire with PVC insulation and a PVC outer sheath, available in 2 to 5 cores.
Q.Do you make fire resistant flexible wire?
Yes. NH-VVR has a mica tape layer over the flexible copper conductor for fire resistance. ZR-BVVR is the flame retardant version.
Q.Can I get tinned copper flexible wire?
Yes. The stranded conductor can be annealed plain copper or tinned copper.
Q.What colours are available?
Red, yellow, blue, green, black, white and yellow/green are standard, and other colours can be made to order.
